| Armidale Playhouse Prompt - March 2003
You're a Good Man Charlie Brown
Don't miss this gently amusing dramatisation of the Peanuts comic strip.
It is less a drama than a series of vignettes that range from the very funny (for instance the book report on Peter Rabbit) through the pathos of Charlie deperately wanting to have the courage to talk to the little red headed girl to the whimsical spontaneity of Snoopy and Woodstock.
It is essentially an ensemble production with a lot of strong performances with Fergus Parker beautifully capturing the somewhat hopeless Charlie though Anna McCrae as Woodstock really steals the show.
The show runs on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights (8pm) and Saturday afternoons (2pm) until 15 March. Book early at Theatre Cats in the Mall (6771 2122) and enjoy these lovable characters as they laugh and sing their way through a day in the life of Charlie Brown. DON'T MISS IT!
Play Readings
There'll be a double play reading for Sunday 6 April, starting at 11am with a break for lunch between plays. The plays are The Wild Guys, a Canadian play about four guys going into the woods together each with a different agenda and expectations and Mother Said I Never Should which is about four generations of women and examines the relationships between mothers and daughters. It should be a fascinating and fun day. More info can be obtained from Jean Freer 6772 8831, Catherine Fenning 6772 8701 or Nadia Ozanne 6771 2942.
Future Productions
Our next confirmed production is The Laramie Project which Martin Mantle will direct around August. This should be a fascinating and challenging piece of theatre.
We're also looking for proposals for a slot around October.
There is a possible proposal for a joint playhouse/musical society pantomime in November/December.
Macbeth
The UNE annual outside Shakespeare production this year is Macbeth. Directed by Adrian Kiernander it is running at the University Boiler House Carpark at 8pm on March 6, 7, 8, 13, 14, 15. Press releases suggest a greater emphasis on the magical aspects than usual and it should therefore be well worth a look.
Bookings at Theatre CATS in the mall 6771 2122.
Elizabethan Feast
Associated with Macbeth there will be an Elizabethan feast at Booloominbah on Thursday 13 March (6pm) complete with varied entertainment by wandering (or even stationary) minstrels and clowns. You get an extra glass of wine if you come in costume!
Bookings 6773 5174 or enquiries (Barbara Albury) 6772 9529.
Wanted: Crew for Up the Creek
