| Armidale Playhouse Prompt - April 2003
The Laramie Project - Auditions
The next playhouse production will be The Laramie Project to be directed by Martin Mantle who directed the terrific Aftershocks last year. In some ways this is a similar work being based on the theatrical telling of a real life story: in this case the investigation of the effect of the murder of a gay man on a small American town.
Auditions will be held on:
Saturday 10 May 12 Noon,
Monday 12 May 7.00pm,
Tuesday 13 May 7.00pm
at the playhouse.
The Laramie Project has been written from interviews and court transcripts, news reports and journal entries. The Laramie Project is story-telling theatre and there is a lot of text to learn.
Performance dates will be 7 to 23 August 2003 (Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays) 1 matinee.
(Possible extension to 30/8/03).
The Cast:
8 actors: 4 female, 4 male. Various ages. (There are 70 characters in this play.)
Also Needed:
Production Manager, Stage Manager, Front of House co-ordinator, Lighting/sound operator/designer.
Any one interested in being involved in any way should contact Martin Mantle

Play Readings
For various logistical reasons (sounds impressive doesn't it) the readings of The Wild Guys, and Mother Said I Never Should had to be postponed. They'll be rescheduled and we'll let you know the new date as soon as possible.
Future Productions
We're looking for proposals for a production in about October for the Playhouse. If you have any ideas, even for a one act play that could be put together with one or two others with different directors come along to the next meeting (Monday 5 April) and make your pitch.
There is a possibility of a joint Playhouse/Musical Society pantomime in November/December.
The Country Wife
Astrid Blake's Stage One Studio Company are putting on the restoration comedy The Country Wife at the Old Teacher's College Auditorium on 13, 14 and 17 May at 8pm. Based on the quality of the Studio Company productions for the last few years (Antigone, Matilda Women, Property of the Clan etc) this should be a great piece of theatre. Tickets are available from Dymocks.
Up the Creek
Barbara Albury's production based on the stories of Mary Gilmore and Edward Dyson Up the Creek will be on at the Playhouse June 19 -July 6.
Further information from Barbara Albury 6772 9529.
Next Meeting
The next meeting of the committee to which everyone is welcome will be on Monday 5 May at the Playhouse at 7:30pm. Meetings are held on the first Monday of each month.
