Armidale Playhouse Prompt - July 2003

The Laramie Project

Rehearsals are zipping along for The Laramie Project which promises to be a fascinating and challenging night in the theatre. Almost a documentary it presents a group of actors and a town (about the size of Armidale) trying to reconstruct and come to terms with a gay hate murder. All the actors play multiple roles and it plays with story telling, memory, theatre and reality.

Martin Mantle has got a good cast together with Beverly Bugeja, Suzi Morrison, Susie Smith, Catherine Wright, Warren Bartik, Sid Pink, Dave Ross, and Scott Snedden. Performances will start at 7:30pm and the season runs from 7 to 23 August 2003 (Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays) with one matinee (1:30pm) on the 16th. Tickets are available from Dymocks in the mall 6771 4558. This is a play that anyone interested in theatre (or in society) should see. DON'T MISS IT!

More details closer to the date

Panto Readings

There will be read throughs of three possible scripts for the joint Playhouse/Musical Society pantomime that will go on in November/December to be directed by Neil Horton, at 2:00pm on Sunday 20 July at Neil's place: 84 Fittler Close. The possibilities are: Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk and Puss in Boots. Come along and BYO everything.

Next year's program

We're starting to think about what we're going to do next year. So far suggestions are: Cabaret to be directed by Nadia Ozanne; The Good Doctor (Neil Simon's version of Chekhov to commemorate the 100th anniversary of his death) to be directed by Barbara Albury and King Lear to be directed by Martin Mantle. We need some more suggestions so if you have any ideas (even one-act plays since we can put several together in one night) come along to a meeting.

Up the Creek

Barbara Albury's production had a very successful run in the playhouse. Barbara would like to thank all playhouse members (and particularly Jim Harrop) who provided front of house assistance during the season.

Next Meeting

The next meeting of the committee to which everyone is welcome will be on Monday 4 August at the Playhouse at 7:30pm. Meetings are held on the first Monday of each month.
