| Armidale Playhouse Prompt - August 2003
Cinderella AUDITIONS
Auditions for the joint Playhouse/Musical Society pantomime Cinderella are on Tuesday 5 and Thursday 7 August at 7:30pm at Armidale High.
It has a really funny script very much in the English pantomime tradition with lots of cross dressing and some lovely slapstick (not to mention explosions and audience participation). A cast of about 20 is needed. Most of the singing is based on nursery rhymes and pretty straight forward.
It will be directed by Neil Horton who can be contacted on 6772 2512 (aided and abetted by Nadia Ozanne).
It should be great fun to be involved in it.
The Laramie Project
The Laramie Project opens on Thursday this week and runs from 7 August until 23 August, (Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays) starting at 7:30pm. There is one matinee at 1:30pm on Saturday 16 August.
It promises to be a fascinating, powerful and challenging night in the theatre. Almost a documentary it presents a group of actors and a town (about the size of Armidale) trying to reconstruct and come to terms with a gay hate murder. All the actors play multiple roles and it plays with story telling, memory, theatre and reality.
Martin Mantle has got a good cast together with Beverly Bugeja, Suzi Morrison, Susie Smith, Catherine Wright, Warren Bartik, Sid Pink, Dave Ross, and Scott Snedden.
Tickets are available from Dymocks in the mall 6771 4558.
This is a play that anyone interested in theatre (or in society) should see. DON'T MISS IT.
Play Readings
We will run a series of play readings at 2:30pm on Sundays in September. The program is:
7 Sept - The Wild Guys, and Mother Said I Never Should
14 Sept - Proof
21 Sept - Urinetown
28 Sept - A Voyage Round My Father
These are all interesting plays and may be considered for future production.
Next year's program
We're starting to think about what we're going to do next year. So far suggestions are: Cabaret; The Good Doctor; King Lear; The Vagina Monologues; Love Letters; Lend Me a Tenor; and Godspell. We still need some more suggestions particularly for a show right at the beginning of the year (since most of the possible directors for the above want the second half of the year!) so if you have any ideas (even one-act plays since we can put several together in one night) come along to a meeting.
Coming Concerts
A couple of interesting concerts are coming up. On Friday 29 August (6:30pm for 7pm) at the Old Teachers College there is a Benefit Concert for Gerard Allan; and on Saturday 6 September (2pm) at NERAM there is a performance by Benjamin Thorn and Murray Winton.
Next Meeting
The next meeting of the committee to which everyone is welcome will be on Monday 1 September at the Playhouse at 7:30pm. Meetings are held on the first Monday of each month.
