| Armidale Playhouse Prompt - October 2003
Cinderella
Start thinking about getting a Christmas theatre party together for Cinderella. This joint Playhouse/Musical Society production is well into rehearsal. Directed by a combination of Neil Horton and Nadia Ozanne with Stuart Pavel as musical director it promises to be a lot of fun and quite spectacular.
Very much in the English pantomime tradition with cross dressing, audience participation, a lot of slapstick and a very funny script it should appeal to virtually everyone.
There is a strong cast including: Ben Mettam, Emily Thomas-Moore, David Young, Doug Rumble, Ruth Strutt, Emma Horton, Diane Murphy, Marney Tilley, Stephen Watt, Ingrid Rothe and others too numerous to mention.
It goes on in the Arts Theatre from 22 November till 6 December with evening performances at 7pm and matinees on all Saturdays and Sundays at 1pm.
Bookings will be at Dymocks.
Next year's program
Next year's program is beginning to take shape but there are still opportunities to slip in a few extra things. In about March Kristin Adair and Benjamin Thorn will put together a short season of poetry in performance in conjunction with Poetzinc. There's a window of opportunity in April/May (before getting swamped by the Musical Society's production of L'il Abner) for a small show, possibly a couple of one act plays so if you have any ideas let us know. Barbara Albury will probably do a Chekhov (or The Good Doctor) in August and Jean Freer will do Lend Me a Tenor in October. There's a possibility of another show in November/December and suggestions include a Pantomime; Cabaret; Into the Woods. We'll probably do The Vagina Monologues early in 2005. Other suggestions particularly for a show at the beginning of the year are welcome so if you have any ideas (even one-act plays since we can put several together in one night) come along to a meeting.
Life Membership for Astrid
At the last playhouse meeting it was decided to make Astrid Blake a life member. Astrid has contributed a lot to the Playhouse in many different capacities over the years and this is some small recognition of all that she has done.
Christmas Party
The Playhouse Christmas party will be held in conjunction with the last night party after Cinderella on December 6. It might be worth thinking about booking in for the show.
Next Meeting
The next meeting of the committee to which everyone is welcome will be on Monday 3 November at the Playhouse at 7:30pm. Meetings are held on the first Monday of each month.
