| Armidale Playhouse Prompt - August 2004
The Good Doctor
The first week audiences have been very enthusiastic about Barbara Albury's production of Neil Simon's version of Chekhov short stories. Don't miss it!
It's very funny (with a touch of pathos) and there is some great acting with several of the cast being chameleonic in their ability to play wildly different characters in different scenes (or in the case of Jan Wyles in the same scene – her weak defenceless creature has to be seen to be believed).
If you want to find out why you shouldn't sneeze on your boss or the correct price to pay for a drowning (or indeed your first sexual experience) come along and see Gordon Cope, Christian Evans, Mari Grantun, Jared Green, Jim Harrop, James Mort, Susie Smith and Jan Wyles strut their stuff.
Performances are at 8pm Thursdays to Saturday and 4:30pm on Sundays and the season ends on 22 August. Tickets $15/$12. Thrifty Thursdays apply with all tickets at $12.
Bookings/enquiries Armidale Visitors Centre 6772 4655.
Playing Chekhov
There are still two chances to catch this 3 hour Stanislavsky acting workshop with Sue Fell on Saturday 14 and 21 August at Smith House 2–5pm. Cost $40, (playhouse members $30 if booked through Gordon 6771 5065).
To Russia with Love
The first two events in our celebration of Russian culture also went very well. Vodka and Verse was booked out and well received with readings by Jodi Brash, Gordon Cope, Neville Crew, Kris Ford, Kathryn Sinclair and Benjamin Thorn, a talk by Jenny Crew and Music by Greg McPhan and Steve Tafra. Dr Zhivago was also well attended and raised almost $600 for the Playhouse.
Coming Shows
Lend Me a Tenor and I Do! I Do! have been cast.
Rehearsals have already started for Lend Me a Tenor which is being directed by Jean Freer. It is a lovely farce about mistaken identity and impersonation (aren't they all?) and the season runs from 14 October.
The cast includes Neil Horton, Ben Mettam, Brad Crook, Marney Tilley, Cheryl Landers, Ingrid Rothe, Mike Gibson.
I Do! I Do! is a two hander romantic musical that charts 50 years of a marriage. Doug Rumble and Tracey James will star in this production by Kristin Adair. The season will run from 18 November.
Next Meeting
The next meeting of the committee to which everyone is welcome will be on Monday 6 September at the Playhouse at 7:30pm. Meetings are held on the first Monday of each month.
