| Armidale Playhouse Prompt - September 2004
Lend Me A Tenor
Rehearsals are going well for our next production and the cast is having a lot of fun which should translate into the audience having a whale of a time too. Jean Freer's production of Lend Me a Tenor shouldn't be missed.
A comedy set in the Cleveland Ohio opera company in the 1930s we have at first too few and then too many tenors for Verdi's Otello, a lot of mistaken identity, an hilarious double seduction scene and 50 kilograms of rotting shrimps (which fortunately never appear on stage).
A strong cast includes Neil Horton, Ben Mettam, Brad Crook, Marney Tilley, Cheryl Landers, Ingrid Rothe, Mike Gibson and Natalie Stephenson.
The season will run from the 14th till the 30th October with performances at 8pm Thursdays to Saturday and two matinees at 2:30pm on 23 and 30th. Tickets $15/$12. Thrifty Thursdays apply with all tickets at $12.
Bookings/enquiries Armidale Visitors Centre 6772 4655.
Wanted: 1930s furniture
Because Lend Me a Tenor is set in a classy hotel in the 1930s we are looking for period furniture to dress the set. In particular we need a (small) settee or lounge, a sideboard an open backed chair, a bedside table a coffee table, a pedestal for flowers or pot plants. If you have any of these that you are prepared to lend please contact Lenore Crocker on 6771 1508.
We also need some small period props and costume items such as luggage, hand bags, fur coats etc. If you can help contact Jean Freer on 6772 8331.
The Good Doctor – Thanks
I would like to thank everyone who helped do front of house for The Good Doctor.
It all went very well. A smooth operation - with heart. Thank you Betty, Nadia and mum, Kay and Alex, Dot, Lenore, Colin, Neil , Beau, Bryce, Barbara, Mike, Cheryl, Jody, Tracey, Catherine, Grant, Conrad, Brad, Martin and of course Kristin for assembling the cast (some of whom made several entrances ie doing front-of-house more than once) and managing proceedings.
Much appreciated.
Barbara Albury.
Incidentally anyone interested in front of house for Lend Me A Tenor can contact Kristin on 6771 4077.
Coming Shows
After Lend Me a Tenor the next show will be I Do! I Do! a two hander romantic musical that charts 50 years of a marriage. Doug Rumble and Tracey James will star in this production by Kristin Adair. The season will run from 18 November at the Arts Theatre.
We are also starting planning for next year so if you have any ideas let us know.
Next Meeting
The next meeting of the committee to which everyone is welcome will be on Monday 4 October at the Playhouse at 7:30pm. Meetings are held on the first Monday of each month.
