Armidale Playhouse Prompt - October 2004

Lend Me A Tenor

Our first week has gone off with a bang, everyone I spoken to about it reckons it's a really fun show and shouldn't be missed. A lively farce set in the Cleveland Ohio opera company in the 1930s it includes some over the top characters, a bit of singing, a lot of mistaken identity and an hilarious (but tasteful) double seduction scene choreographed to the Anvil Chorus (appropriate for a big bang really).

The strong cast includes some of Armidale's finest: Neil Horton, Ben Mettam, Brad Crook, Marney Tilley, Cheryl Landers, Ingrid Rothe, Mike Gibson and Natalie Stephenson. With just eight more performances the season runs till the 30th October with performances at 8pm Thursdays to Saturday and matinees at 2:30pm on Saturdays. Tickets $15/$12. Thrifty Thursdays apply with all tickets at $12. Bookings/enquiries Armidale Visitors Centre 6772 4655. DON'T MISS IT!

I Do! I Do!

Our next production the two hander romantic musical is already well into rehearsals. Directed by Kristin Adair with Emma Chapman as musical director, it stars Tracey James and Doug Rumble as the couple who play out 50 years of their marriage on stage.

The season will be in the Arts Theatre from 18 November till 4 December Thursday to Saturday evenings and Saturday matinees and it would make a great end of year outing for any group (or indeed individual). Tickets will be available from Dymocks 6771 4558.

Kristin is also looking for 1930s toys: wooden fire engines, dolls etc for use as props. If you've got anything that might be suitable contact her on 6771 4077.

Auditions – Woyzeck

Barbara Albury is directing Georg Buchner's Woyzeck for a one week season in the Arts Theatre as part of the German Festival in March next year. A dark tragi-comedy with a sardonic twist, written in the mid nineteenth century, Woyzeck explores the arbitrary oppression of a private soldier and is one of the first plays to deal with the little man. It is surprisingly modern in both structure and content and still very relevant today.

It has some great roles for actors of various ages (4 to 70) and genders and also great opportunities for people to get involved in sound, lighting stage management etc. Anyone interested should ring Barbara on 6772 9529. Auditions will be held at the Playhouse on Sunday 7 November 2–4pm.

Next Year

We are still planning for next year so if you have any ideas let us know.

Next Meeting

The next meeting of the committee to which everyone is welcome will be on Monday 1 November at the Playhouse at 7:30pm.
