| Armidale Playhouse Prompt - November 2004
I Do! I Do!
Have you ever wanted to see the entire 50 year course of a marriage on stage with its loves and vicissitudes (as well as some great gutsy songs)? Well if you have (and perhaps even if you haven't thought about the issue) our next production the two hander romantic musical I Do! I Do! is for you.
Directed by Kristin Adair with Emma Chapman as musical director, it stars the brilliant Tracey James and Doug Rumble as the couple who play out 50 years of their marriage on stage (all alone apart form an orchestra and lots of stuffed toys).
The season will be in the Arts Theatre from 18 November till 4 December Thursday to Saturday evenings and Saturday matinees and it would make a great end of year outing for any group (or indeed individual).
Tickets will be available from Dymocks 6771 4558.
DON'T MISS IT!
Woyzeck
Barbara Albury is directing Georg Buchner's Woyzeck as a joint production between the playhouse and the UNE German Department, for a one week season in the Arts Theatre as part of the German Festival in March next year.
Auditions have been held but there are still opportunities for people to be involved both on and off stage. The production will involve music, puppets, clowns and lots of lighting and sound effects.
Jenny Vaughan will be assistant director and Benjamin Thorn is doing the music.
A dark tragi-comedy with a sardonic twist, written in the mid nineteenth century, Woyzeck explores the arbitrary oppression of a private soldier and is one of the first plays to deal with the little man. It is surprisingly modern in both structure and content and still very relevant today.
Anyone interested in being involved in any way should ring Barbara on 6772 9529.
Lend Me a Tenor wows 'em!
Our season of this Ken Ludwig farce went very well with a number of people coming back to see it a second time (and that's not counting relations of the cast). Jean Freer and her cast did a terrific job and should be congratulated.
Next Year
We are still planning for next year so if you have any ideas let us know. One possibility is to run a series of play readings (perhaps even rehearsed play readings) early in the year so if people have any plays they would like to have read they should come along to a meeting and let us know. This could be an opportunity a little bit of directing experience without the stresses of a full production.
Next Meeting
The next meeting of the committee to which everyone is welcome will be on Monday 1 December at the Playhouse at 7:30pm. Meetings are normally on the first Monday of each month.
