Armidale Playhouse Prompt - April 2005

AGM

The annual general meeting of the Playhouse will be on Monday 2 May at 7:30pm in the Playhouse. Think about getting involved in the committee and really seeing how things work!

Woyzeck

Woyzeck had a great little season with some really good audience reactions (and quite good numbers). I'm still hearing good comments about it a month after it finished! The director Barbara Albury includes this little message:

"I would like to thank all those people who did front-of-house for Woyzeck. We had a short but most successful run and received a great review from Stephen Dobson. So thank you Kristin, Graham, Jan, Helen, Martin, Kris, Lyn, Cecile, Maryanne, Betty, Barbara, Bryce, Colin, Brie, Nadia and mum, Aline, Ingrid, Mike and Cheryl (I hope I haven't left anyone out). We had large audiences (thank goodness) and your assistance was very much appreciated. A very special thanks also to Kristin Adair for organising front-of house. I can still see her transporting and unloading and storing endless boxes of chips and drinks to the Arts Theatre. It's no mean feat to set up a smoothly operating catering business in what is basically a lecture theatre."

Poetzinc

After the success of last year's Poetry and Passion at the Playhouse, we thought we'd have another collaboration with Poetzinc. Benjamin Thorn will gain co-ordinate and direct it and we'll have a one week season of staged readings in the last week of July. Auditions for those interested in being involved will probably be around the end of May but you could ring Benjamin on 6772 5889 to express interest before then.

Rest of the Year's Program

We are still not absolutely sure what we're doing later this year. We still need to find something to do in or around September so if you have any ideas come along to the next meeting. We are seriously considering Cabaret, perhaps directed by Gordon Cope, in November.

Working Bee

An old venue like the playhouse always needs a bit of TLC if it isn't to lapse into decrepitude. We're therefore planning a working bee to clean and tidy it up for 19 June starting at 10am. These are always fun and you might even meet some new (and will certainly meet some interesting) people.

Next Meeting

The next meeting of the committee to which everyone is welcome will be on Monday 2 May at the Playhouse after the AGM at 7:30pm. Meetings are normally on the first Monday of each month.
