| Armidale Playhouse Prompt - May 2005
AUDITIONS, AUDITIONS
The next show at the playhouse will be a short (one week) season of staged readings and performances of works by local writers from Poetzinc to go on in the last week of July. It will be a similar show to last year's successful Poetry and Passion but this year we're calling it Memories, Romance and Something Grittier.
We've put together a nice collection of varied works ranging from reflections on war and relation-ships to a few funny and whimsical pieces.
It will be directed by Benjamin Thorn and people of all ages and genders are needed. You can be involved in one small piece or in a number of them and with a one week season your commitment will be much more manageable than with most shows! It's a good chance to be involved in a performance without it dominating your life.
Auditions will be at the playhouse on Sunday 29 May at 2pm and Tuesday 31 May at 7:30pm.
Anyone wanting to be involved in any way either on or off stage can ring Benjamin on 6772 5889.
Your New Committee
At the AGM on 2 May the following committee was elected:
President: Gordon Cope
Vice Presidents: Barbara Albury and Martin Carroll
Secretary: Benjamin Thorn
Treasurer: Kristin Adair
Committee: Jean Freer, Judith Lamb.
Gordon and Kristin intimated that they would not seek re-election next year.
Cabaret
Our final show of the year in about November will be Cabaret to be directed by Barbara Albury and produced by Gordon Cope.
This Kandor and Ebb musical set in 1930s Berlin probably needs no introduction. It's full of fabulous characters and songs with a nice sinister undertone of the rise of Nazism.
We hope to be able to put together a really good and profitable show (which quite frankly we need!).
Gordon and Barbara are starting to put their ideas and team together so anyone who would like to be involved in any way: acting, costumes, music, sound, set, publicity should contact them. Barbara (6772 9529) or Gordon (6775 3963).
Working Bee
An old venue like the playhouse always needs a bit of TLC if it isn't to lapse into decrepitude. We're therefore planning a working bee to clean and tidy it up for 19 June starting at 10am. These are always fun and you might even meet some new (and will certainly meet some interesting) people.
Next Meeting
The next meeting of the committee to which everyone is welcome will be on Monday 6 June at the Playhouse at 7:30pm. Meetings are normally on the first Monday of each month.
