| Armidale Playhouse Prompt - July 2005
Memories, Romance and Something Grittier
This show is ready to roll and only on this week. Similar in concept to last years successful Poetry and Passion we've put together a new collection of varied works by twenty local writers from Poetzinc.
Find out why two old men are on a billy-cart, what to do when you find your neighbour in your bed of ornamental cabbage, the effect of Kristalnacht on a young girl and why you shouldn't open the Arangatta gate.
The twenty poets cover a range of themes relevant to today's society. They include the conflict between Aboriginal and white justice, war and the holocaust, rural blight, the vagaries of love and romance in different contexts and the nature of being and poetry. While many of the works are serious, many are lighter and some are extremely funny.
Director Benjamin Thorn has put together a cast of eleven including Betty Hall, Lorraine Rigby, Barbara Colledge, Bryce Little, Imogen Dean, Rowan Webb, Bob Thompson, Dan Bateman, Alex Borkowski, Brian Neville, and Jody Brash with music by himself and Rowan. The combination of music, lighting and projections creates a magical version of the poets' words.
Performances will be on 28, 29 and 30 July at 8pm with a matinee on the Saturday or Sunday to be confirmed. Tickets at the door $12/$8 concession but we have a special discount of $5 for school groups of over 10 students (contact Benjamin 67772 5889 for this).
Remember it's only on this week so don't miss it!
Cabaret
Our final show of the year in the last week of November and first weeks of December will be Cabaret to be directed by Barbara Albury and Gordon Cope.
It is being done on the main hall of the Showground which will be transformed into an authentic Berlin dive of the 1930s with tables and refreshments.
It has already been cast and rehearsals start soon. Contact Barbara (6772 9529) or Gordon (6775 3963) if you want to be involved in any other way: costumes, music, sound, set, publicity etc.
This Kandor and Ebb musical set in 1930s Berlin probably needs no introduction. It's full of fabulous characters and songs with a nice sinister undertone of the rise of Nazism.
It promises to be a really good and profitable show (which quite frankly we need!)
Next Meeting
The next meeting of the committee to which everyone is welcome will be on Monday 1 August at the Playhouse at 7:30pm. Meetings are normally on the first Monday of each month.
