| Armidale Playhouse Prompt - March 2006
Love Letters
Love Letters is a simple but compelling show. Essentially a dramatic version of an epistolary novel, it consists of the fifty years of correspondence: in classroom notes, postcards and letters between lawyer Andrew Makepeace Ladd III and artist Melissa Gardner.
Everyone who’s seen it raves about it.
Jean Freer is rehearsing three different couples who will appear on different nights giving audiences an opportunity to follow a favourite performer or perhaps enjoy the diversity of going to more than one show.
Neil Horton pairs with Anita Brown, Jim Harrop with Barbara Albury while Judith Lamb and Chris Ross-Smith have been coaxed out of retirement for the occasion. Each couple bring their own charm as the letters are read aloud allowing us to eavesdrop on this bitter-sweet life-long affair.
Commencing on Wednesday 22 March the play will have a two week season running Thursday, Friday, Saturday after the opening as well as two Sunday Matinee performances. Evenings will commence at 8pm and Matinees at 4pm.
It’s on at the Armidale Showground Pavilion in a new intimate configuration and tickets will be available from Reader’s Companion in the Mall 6771 2544.
For something a little different make sure you keep at least one night free - or maybe two - to enjoy Love Letters.
Love Letters - Front of House
Anyone interested in doing front of house for Love Letters should contact Benjamin on 6772 5889.
Working Bee
In order to get the Showground pavilion back into shape for Love Letters after the Armidale Show there will be a working bee at the Showground from 10am on Saturday 18 March. The valiant workers who have shifted things in and out recently are wearing out so this is a plea for new muscles and bodies to help out!
This Year’s Program
Benjamin has agreed to put on his geriatric version of Romeo and Juliet, Roger and Julie in the middle of the year, possibly with Mark Twain‘s Shakespearian Revival (from Huckleberry Finn). Lots of great roles for actors aged over 50!
We are also looking at an evening of short plays by different directors.
Other suggestions are welcome!
Vexations
Erik Satie’s bizarre piece Vexations is being played 840 times at NERAM between 18-19 March, starting at 4pm. Lots of different performers and several artists painting their reactions to the work. The Art museum will be open all night so if you’ve ever had the urge to visit an Art Gallery at 3am on Sunday morning here’s your opportunity!
Next Meeting
The next meeting of the committee to which everyone is welcome will be on Monday 3 April at the Playhouse at 7:30pm. Meetings are normally on the first Monday of each month.
