| Armidale Playhouse Prompt - January 2007
Rhymes and Rumours on Stage - Auditions
Our first show of the year will be one of our collaborations with Poetzinc directed again by Benjamin Thorn.
This will be an extravaganza of staged poetry (and other writing) with music and visuals. If you’ve seen our most recent Poetzinc collaborations: Poetry and Passion at the Playhouse and Memories, Romance and Something Grittier you’ll know that this will be a really fascinating and fun show.
Since in many cases works are very short or can be read this is a great chance for people without much time for rehearsals to get on stage. It is also a short season of six performances at the end of March.
People of all ages and sexes can audition (and almost be guaranteed a part) and auditions will be held at the Playhouse on Sunday 4 February at 2pm and Tuesday 6 February at 7:30pm.
For further information and offers of backstage work (stage management, lighting etc) contact Benjamin Thorn 6772 5889.
The Rest of 2007 Program
After Rhymes and Rumours on Stage our program will be:
May: Favourite Shorts. This is an opportunity for new directors. We’re looking for people who want to do a short piece (2 to 15 minutes) by a local or indeed any writer. Potential writers, directors, actors or backstage people should contact Barbara Albury 6772 9529
or Kate Coward 6771 1872.
July/August: Vincent in Brixton, a play about the early life of Vincent van Gogh. A nice five-hander largely set in a kitchen.
November: Sweeney Todd directed by Jean Freer with Bruce Menzies as Musical Director. The blackest of black comedies: visits to the barber or the pie shop will never be the same.
Stage One
As those on email will know we are still looking at the ramifications of a possible purchase of the Stage One School of Drama. This will then be a stand alone unit and will not involve the Playhouse in any on-going costs. Stage One was founded by the late Astrid Blake and has been a fantastic institution for young people in Armidale over the years and we hope to see it continue under the direction of Julie Collins. Enrolments for the first term are currently being taken and if you know of a young person who wants to have some great theatrical experiences contact Stage One on 6771 1112.
Our final decision about Stage One will be made shortly.
Next Meeting
The next meeting of the committee to which everyone is welcome will be on Monday 5 February at the Playhouse at 7:30pm. Meetings are normally on the first Monday of each month.
