Armidale Playhouse Prompt - April 2007

Favourite Shorts

Our next show or rather shows starts next week. Favourite Shorts is three mini-seasons of short plays and other dramatic pieces, mostly by local writers, featuring a veritable plethora of directors and actors. Performances will be at the St Kilda Hotel (corner of Marsh and Rusden Street) with each mini-season running on Monday and Tuesday evenings at 7pm and on the following Sunday at 2pm.

Week 1 (7-13 May) features: Sugar; No Strings; Caged Birds; No Name Play; George and Condoleesa; The Interview; and Wish Too Hard.

Week 2 (14-20 May) features: Twinkle Toes; The Burglar; The Dominatrix; Stand up comedy from Mari Grantun; Chlorophyll Cobwebs Within My Sandwich; and Thrilling Hostage Drama at High Speed with Pineapple.

Week 3 (21-27 May) features: Pearls Before Swine; To Die For; Headscan; Stand up comedy from Jenny Greany; Wild about Wilde; Patrick; Wasting Time; and Believe.

Some of the plays contain strong language and adult themes. The three shows do however present a great opportunity to see some raw heartfelt theatre produced by local writers and performers. Tickets are available from Dymocks for $10 or at the door. Concessions $5 are only available at the door. Don’t miss at least one of the shows and think about coming to all three!

Rhymes and Rumours on Stage

This was a great little show that was enjoyed by everyone who saw it. Congratulations to Benjamin Thorn and his cast.

Vincent in Brixton

Vincent has been cast and rehearsals have begun for award winning play about the artist Vincent van Gogh when he was working in London. He was young, in love, and was also beginning to draw. It is a play about art, passion and creativity. Performances will be from 23 August till 9 September.

Van Gogh Art Competition

We are running an art competition for schools in conjunction with this show. Entrants (years 5-12) should draw, paint or create 3D work in the style of Vincent van Gogh with a selection of the best entries being displayed at the New England Regional Art Museum (NERAM) where you can also get entry forms. There are several very good prizes to be won. Closing Date is 1 June. For further information contact Jody Brash 0402 231 880.

Sweeney Todd

The two main role of Sweeney and Mrs Lovett have been cast in Stephen Sondheim's spectacularly gruesome music theatre piece. Auditions for the rest of the company will be held on 17th & 18th of July.

Next Meeting

The next meeting of the committee to which everyone is welcome will be on Monday 7 May at the Playhouse at 7:30pm. Meetings are normally on the first Monday of each month.
