Armidale Playhouse Prompt - June 2007

Sweeney Todd - Information Night and Auditions

Plans for our final show of the year, Stephen Sondheim's spectacularly gruesome music theatre piece that will put you off both haircuts and pies, are well underway. The two main roles of Sweeney and Mrs Lovett have been cast. It will be directed by Jean Freer with musical direction by Bruce Menzies. There will be an information night for people interested in other roles on Wednesday 27 June at 7:30pm in the Ben Venue School Hall. Auditions for the rest of the company will be held on 17th & 18th of July at 7pm again at Ben Venue School Hall. Anyone interested should contact Robyn Bradley for the music on 6772 6468.

Favourite Shorts

This series of short pays at the St Kilda Hotel went fabulously well with some great audience response. It was great to get a lot of new people involved both on stage and in the audience. Many thanks to Kate Coward for taking on the co-ordination of it.

Vincent in Brixton

Vincent has been cast and rehearsals have begun for award winning play about the artist Vincent van Gogh when he was working in London. He was young, in love, and was also beginning to draw. It is a play about art, passion and creativity. Performances will be from 23 August till 9 September.

Because it is set in a kitchen in 1873 we are looking for some props and set items to give the appropriate flavour. In particular we are looking for:

An old dresser (that can be painted)
An oil lamp for indoors
Square or round tins to hold flour, sugar, salt etc
Some old fashioned cooking pots
Old fashioned beer bottles
Old fashioned lace up boots (size 9)
A metal bucket and mop
A clothes horse
A bunch of artificial violets
An old tool bag

If you are prepared to lend any of these contact Barbara Albury on 6772 9529.

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat

This production by the Armidale and District Musical Society at the Ex-Services Club still has two weeks to run. It’s a fun show with some good singing and acting and dancing. Howard Randall as Pharaoh (Elvis) possibly steals the show but Tracey James as the narrator and Michael Abbott as Joseph are also very good. It’s a great night out and you should catch it if you can. Bookings at the Ex-Servies.

Next Meeting

The next meeting of the committee to which everyone is welcome will be on Monday 2 July at the Playhouse at 7:30pm. Meetings are normally on the first Monday of each month.
