| Armidale Playhouse Prompt - August 2007
Vincent in Brixton
The award winning play about an episode in the early life of van Gogh (in the play everyone calls him Mr Vincent since they can’t get the pronunciation right) opens on the 23 August. Ben Sutton, last seen in Rhymes and Rumours as a chauvinist noisy miner plays Vincent with Julie Collins as his landlady/lover Mrs Loyer, head the cast.
Barbara Albury is directing this award winning play, which will be presented in the Packsaddle Studio underneath NERAM.
Jean Freer is co-ordinating front of house so if your interested in helping out ring her on 6772 8831.
After the opening Thursday night, performances are on Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm and Sunday afternoons at 2pm until the 9 September. Tickets are available from Dymocks.
This should be a fascinating piece of theatre so it shouldn’t be missed.
Art like van Gogh Exhibition
In association with Vincent in Brixton we have been running an Art Like van Gogh competition for schools. The best of the entries will be on display in the Pack Saddle Studio during the Vincent in Brixton season and can be seen at performances. However the exhibition is being opened and prizes awarded this Sunday 12 August at 2pm. Come along and see what has been done and some of the works are really terrific!
Sweeney Todd
Rehearsals are bubbling away for our final show of the year, Stephen Sondheim's spectacularly gruesome music theatre piece that will put you off both haircuts and pies. It will be directed by Jean Freer with musical direction by Bruce Menzies.
It will be put on at the showground in November and set construction (including the slide from the barber’s chair into the mincer – we haven’t told the chorus just why we needed so large a cast) will start later this month. Anyone interested in helping should contact Gordon Cope 0403 392 531 or Colin Barry 6771 5659.
Stage One
An initial board has been appointed for Stage One: Rosemary Mort, Warren Bartik, Judith Lamb, Jim Harrop and Gordon Cope. Their job will be to try to see that Stage One realises its potential both creatively and financially.
AGM
The Annual General Meeting of the Playhouse will be on Monday 3 September at 7:30pm at the playhouse. Think about whether you’d like to get involved since we always need new enthusiastic people.
Next Meeting
The next meeting of the committee to which everyone is welcome will be on Monday 3 September following the AGM at the Playhouse at 7:30pm. Meetings are normally on the first Monday of each month.
