Armidale Playhouse Prompt - February 2008 AUDITIONS: Favourite Shorts Favourite Shorts, our festival of new short plays is back again after last year’s fantastically successful season. This year the season will run from 8 – 24 May at the Newie (New England Hotel for those who don’t frequent Pubs). A range of directors have been organised and auditions will be held on Saturday 8 March, 11am and Tuesday 11 March from 6-9pm at the Playhouse. Prepare a two minute monologue and come along. All enquiries to Sue Lewington 6772-2858. This is a great chance to get on stage if you have time constraints in your life since the time commitment will be limited (or unlimited depending on how many pieces you want to be in). Stepping Out The first show of the year is about to get its tap shoes on. This was a popular show when it was previous done (rather more years ago than some people are prepared to admit) and directors Barbara Colledge and Jan Patterson have got a strong vibrant cast together. It should be great fun. Stepping Out will have a two week season at the St Mary’s Cathedral Hall in Rusden Street (next to St Mary’s primary School) 27, 28, 29 March and 3, 4, 5 April. 8pm Thursdays to Saturdays with a 2pm matinee on both Saturdays. Bookings at Dymocks, 169 Beardy Street, Armidale. Ph 6771 4558. Don’t miss it! Stepping Out - Front of House If you are interested in doing front of house for Stepping Out, contact Isabel Strutt. Rest of the Year We haven’t confirmed the rest of the season but at present Frozen in August (directed by Gordon Cope) and Travelling North in October/November (directed by Jean Freer) are strong possibilities. History Catches Up In January we had meeting with the Department of Lands and discovered that we’d been doing something wrong for the last forty years. To be fair to us we weren’t the only people in this situation and the Department had only just noticed. Basically it seems that the Playhouse Trust, which has responsibility for the land that the Playhouse stands on and probably the building should have been a quite separate entity from the Playhouse Incorporated, which puts on plays. This legal discrepancy has now been remedied. Next Meeting The next meeting of the committee to which everyone is welcome will be on Monday 3 March at the Playhouse at 7:30pm. Meetings are normally on the first Monday of each month. |
