Armidale Playhouse Prompt - November 2008

Actors Workout

Actors Workout (not Workshop) commenced last week with ten in attendance. Run by Jeff Caster who has an international career as an actor and Barbara Albury these sessions are designed to tune up acting and performing skills. They take place at the Playhouse on all Mondays until 8 December 7.30-9.30pm. APH/ADMS members $5, Non-members $10.

Actors Workout series due to continue in January with Barbara Albury.

Frozen

While some people may have been put off by the subject matter which resulted in comparatively poor houses, those that did see this play thought it was terrific. There were excellent performances from Julie Collins, Brendan Pascoe and Barbara Albury and the director Gordon Cope should be congratulated for bring such a powerful piece of theatre to the stage.

Favourite Shorts 2009

Our first show for next year will be Favourite Shorts and planning is already going well. Over 50 scripts have submitted! A short-list of scripts will go out to directors this week. The third week of the season will be a collaboration with Poetzinc, directed by Benjamin Thorn.

Auditions 1st and 3rd Feb at the Playhouse

Performances 19 March to 4th April at The Newie. These shows are always a good chance to get involved on stage without the time commitments of being in bigger productions.

Also coming to a Playhouse near you!

Other things that are planned for next year include The Weird Sisters, based on the Terry Pratchett book in the middle of the years, directed by Jim Harrop and Stephen Sondheim’s Into the Woods in November, directed by Jean Freer.

Other activities that we are thinking about now that the working-bee season has ended include perhaps doing some readings. Anyone with ideas about this should come along to a meeting or contact Diana.
