Favourite Shorts 2010:
Call for Scripts and Directors
Favourite Shorts will be back next year. What we need now are some scripts to put on and some directors to put them on.
Scripts can be any length from 10 minutes to half an hour. Ideally they shouldn’t require major production issues like life size helicopters landing on stage (toy ones on a bit of string are fine) but apart from that any subject matter is fine.
If you’ve ever thought you might like to try directing, Favourite Shorts is a good opportunity to have a go and receive support if you need it on a short (and low budget) production. The only way to learn about direction is to do it and it would be good to have a few more experienced directors in town.
Playwrights and potential directors should contact Diana Helmrich

A committee has been established with members from both the Playhouse and the Musical Society to look at the future relationship of the two societies, including possible amalgamation. There could be benefits to both societies if this happened and given the overlap in membership and involvement in productions it seems to make sense. It will only occur with the agreement of both societies and the Playhouse is keen to ensure that any amalgamation will not affect the range of different types of production that are currently put on.
We are looking at a joint meeting of the societies in November (after Into the Woods) but we want to discuss the issue and our options at the next Playhouse meeting which will be on Monday 12 October (a week later than usual to avoid the long weekend). If you have strong (or indeed any) views on this issue please come and have your say!
Into the Woods
Rehearsals are going well for our final production for the year. Rapunzel has almost worked out how to cope with a four metre wig and the rest of the cast are thanking their lucky stars that they don’t have to wear it. The acting and singing are terrific.
Performances will be from 5 to 21 November including matinees on the 14th and 21st at the TAS Performing Arts Centre.
Tickets are available at Dymocks.
Members Nights
Our member’s nights are continuing. The next one will be a play reading of Marc Camoletti's Don't Dress for Dinner on Friday 9th October at 7:30pm.
Venue: Jody Brash's house - 13 Robina Crescent. Ph: 6772 2511.
Catering: Tea/Coffee provided. Please bring supper items to share.
For further information contact Mark Bourne.
We’re also planning an end of year party on Friday 4th December at the Playhouse.
Bring finger food to share. Non-alcoholic drinks will be provided.
Next Meeting
The next playhouse committee meeting to which everyone is welcome will be at 7:30pm on 12 October at the Playhouse. Meetings are normally held on the first Monday of each month.
